I updated the custom installer for the Twilight Dragon Media MinGW v4.4.1-dw2 release. You can find that on the download page. This just makes it really easy to install. It adds the needed gettext and iconv development libraries to the installer. It doesn't set any environment variable so you can run this next to your existing MinGW install.

It has always been a struggle to build wxPack and that is why it takes so long to get new releases out. To help in that area I took about a month and automated to process using a continuous integration server. So now I have a simple 3 step process to building all of wxPack. Expect releases to be much faster and keep in line with the official release of wxWidgets.

Well I have been very busy and struggling to make a release happen for wxPack, so I decided to change my strategy a bit. I decided to only build the library in the compilers I use everyday, Gcc 4.2.1 and Microsoft Visual C++ 8.0. So I am not releasing wxPack built using Gcc 3.4.5 and Microsoft Visual C++ 7.1. Sorry, but I just don't feel like I can support 4 different compilers anymore. If there are any volunteers that would be willing to help out, I will gladly take the help. Use the forum to discuss this further.

Well I have successfully compiled wxWidgets with MinGW Gcc v4.2.1. There is now a release in the download section for people to try. Remember that this has had only limited testing. Use at your own risk.

There is a new release on it's way. I have moved to a new version of GCC (version 4.3.2-sjlj) for this release. I have already updated the download page with the details of the new install. The installer is written so good that I am dropping my version of the GCC v4.2.1 installer. They will always be available to download, just not receiving updates.

Changed line 37 from:

wxPack is a full wxWidgets development kit. It comes with wxWidgets source and binaries pre-built with selected compilers (VC7.1 and gcc) so the developer doesn't need to build it. Building wxWidgets is a long and sometimes difficult task and wxPack takes all the work out of using wxWidgets. It has Visual Studio Integration which comes with a "New Project Wizard" and integrated help. This makes the time needed to develop an application only take as long as writing the code for the application. It also comes with an open-source RAD tool called wxFormBuilder (http://wxformbuilder.org). This cuts the time needed to actually develop the user interface down to a bare minimum. Plus there are also other select contributed widgets included as source and binaries that can be used in a developers application.

wxWidgets v2.8.0 was released. We are actively working towards a release before year end. Here is a status update:
  • wxWidgets is compiled and done.
  • wxAdditions is the problem right now. Two of the controls are not building under wx2.8 so we need to fix them before shipping a new version of the wxPack.
  • I am pretty sure that wxFormBuild will be a huge update to the latest beta. The reason for this is because it has been getting quite a bit of testing and there are so many fixes and updates that people shouldn't live without it.
  • wxVC will be getting an update to a better default wizard code.

Work has started for the move to wxWidgets v2.7.0. This means that development for wxPack with wxWidgets v2.6.3-p2 is frozen. You will always be able to get the wxPack v2.6.3.25 in the SourceForge download page, but I won't be making any additions to it. wxPack is moving on.

There is a new release of wxPack. It now includes wxWidgets v2.7.0. This is a big update. If you want to continue to use wxWidgets v2.6.3 do not install this version. It will uninstall the old version of wxPack during its install. Download now.

wxPack has been submitted to Digg! Thanks for getting the message out there. I have put an easy way for all users to show their support, just click the "digg it" button on the left sidebar. Have fun and keep coding.

Welcome to wxPack!

A complete wxWidgets Developement Kit. Includes: wxWidgets source/binaries, Visual Studio 7+ Project Wizard and Integrated Help, wxFormBuilder (RAD Tool), and various contributed widgets.

wxPack is a full wxWidgets development kit.
